LEAVING THE COMFORT ZONE

How do you think about leaving your comfort zone? I must say that I find it harder than I would like to admit. And it is always the same story, after the initial challenge, I ended up enjoying it so much and asking myself, 'How come I didn't do it sooner?'

Well... I think the first step is recognising it, right? So now, when I am faced with situations that force me to leave my step-by-step routine, I make a point of embracing the process from the start.

And that's how we get into this brooch here.

I created this brooch as part of a fun challenge/activity within the collective I am part of, the Dialogue Collective.

The idea is that each one of us would exchange our unfinished pieces to create something else. I was given these little, perfectly knitted balls made by Sally Collins and had to create a piece of jewellery with them.

Challenge accepted. Now panic time! What am I going to do with them????

As the original unfinished pieces were knitted, I decided to use a needle and thread to create my piece as well. I must say I am not so good at sewing, but... let's go, right?

In a very unconscious creation process, I realised I was going towards medals - maybe already awarding myself for leaving my comfort zone 😂 😂 😂

To be honest, I only realised the resemblance to medals when I was almost done. Anyway, the important thing is that I ended up very pleased with my final result, a very cartoony-like brooch, and I am actually incorporating a bit of sewing into some experiments I have been creating lately.

So, let's see what the future holds for my jewellery.

And you, how do you leave your comfort zone? I would love to hear it.

What about jewellery? Any of my pieces would make you step out of your comfort zone?

X
